What can I expect from a Yoga Therapy assessment?
Firstly we will have a conversation which includes a detailed history of your condition and reason for coming to Yoga Therapy.
I will ask you to move through your full range of movement to assess your posture, range of motion, strength, mobility & flexibility, quality and efficiency of your breathing.
We will then practice some Yoga breathing practices, somatic movements, asanas (postures), meditation and relaxation.
By the end of the assessment, we will be able to decide together what your next step is in your practice. I may suggest Hatha, Somatics, Mindfulness or Kundalini, it really depends on your individual needs and your preferences as a practitioner. A home practice is strongly recommended. This is usually about 15-30 minutes long depending on what is realistic for you.
Testimonials for Yoga Therapy:
Working with Emer and Yoga Therapy has completely transformed my life. I had a severe phobia of needles following a lumbar puncture that went wrong when I was 15. After that, I could not be in a room with one, watch one being used on tv or anything. I even had a filling without anaesthetic once because to me the pain of that was nothing compared to what I would have to go through with an injection. I tried all sorts of things to get over this, including hypnotherapy, but nothing lasted. It was so bad that if I needed an injection I would have to be held down or given something like diazepam, because they couldn’t get near me safely otherwise.
Since following Emer’s Yoga therapy, I cannot believe that my phobia is now gone. At first, I had no need to test it but I started noticing that I no longer changed channel or hid under a pillow when a needle appeared on tv. When I needed a vaccine a month later there were no tears, no hyperventilating and no one holding me down. I couldn’t believe it. This wasn’t just a once off, as I needed to get an injection a few months later. Again, there were no issues. I can’t say that they are enjoyable but I now can have them done with no fear of risk to myself of the person with the needle, as I had no control what I would do if someone came near me with one.
I will be eternally grateful to Emer for helping me overcome such a debilitating phobia. Thank you.
